The University of Iowa Medical Museum was originally conceived as a place to exhibit artifacts and historical displays pertaining to the storied history of the University's medical program in 1982 when a collection of surgical instruments from the 19th century were donated in 1982. Today, the museum still strives to educate the public on the history of medicine and the important impact University hospitals of this kind have had in its growth. The museum is located within the University of Iowa hospital complex just across Hawkins Drive from Kinnick Stadium.
